Cricketers have to go through a lot of stuff outside just playing the game and the fitness demands in the modern game might be hard to swallow for many of them. To restrict themselves from injury should be the first priority and it is not mandatory that the injuries for cricketers should occur only when playing a match.
In the past, Cricketers have been injured in the strangest possible ways and it is not a surprise anymore. It is very hard for a player to accept injuries and it plays a lot with the mindset of them. Most of the time, the players tend to produce the best comebacks from injuries, and here are 7 cricketers who got injured in a bizarre manner.
7 Cricketers Who Got Injured In A Bizarre Manner:
Matthew Hayden:
The big left-hander from Australia, Matthew Hayden was injured in one of the weirdest ways possible in the 2006 Summer. Hayden who was recovering from a finger injury had gone for a jog around the house which did not pan out the best way for him. A local dog attacked him viciously which led to his ankle being affected very badly.
This wasn’t ideal for him as he had already gone through a lot of injuries in the season and he had to be taken to the hospital to be treated. It couldn’t have been worse for him and despite that, he remained an important part of Australia’s batting lineup. He had a very successful career in all the formats for the Australian cricket team and his mode of attack on the fast bowlers was always eye-catching.
Zak Crawley:
Zak Crawley was one of the positives for England from the away series win against Sri Lanka and he was expected to be the number three for the side against India in the four-match test series. However, he was very unfortunate to have got injured in a weird way ahead of the first test which ruled him out of the first two tests.
Crawley, while moving to the practice session from the dressing room had slipped on the marble floor which resulted in him picking up an unlucky injury. It was one of the rare sights and the youngster had to go through a tough phase in the quarantine. Crawley has scored 683 runs in the 12 tests he has played and looks very promising as the future of England’s test cricket team.
Glenn McGrath:
Glenn Mcgrath was one of the best fast bowlers the game of cricket has ever seen and he had to undergo a tough incident that ruled him out of an important test match in the Ashes series. While warming up for the second test in Edgbaston, Mcgrath injured himself while playing touch rugby and he unknowingly stepped on the stray ball which injured his right ankle.
It was one of the strangest injuries and he could not take part in the second test which England went on to win comfortably. McGrath was one of the toughest bowlers to face for any batsman with his height and pace and he hits the good length with some extra bounce, which yielded him a lot of wickets in all the formats. He moved on from the game in 2007 and he was always renowned for being the leader of the famous Australian pace attack.
D’Arcy Short:
He was taken to the hospital to get some stitching done and also he needed surgical washing to get rid of the injury completely. Short is one of the most destructive batsmen at the top and his clinical hitting is a joy to watch. He has been in and out of the Australian limited-overs squad and needs to put up better performances in the BBL to be back in the scheme of things.
Jimmy Adams:
Adams was one of the reliable all-rounders who was superb in the field and the injury led to him missing out on the tour on the sidelines completely. He played 54 tests and 127 ODIs scoring 3012 runs and 2204 runs respectively in the formats. He was a useful cricketer bowling his left-arm spin too with one five-wicket haul in each of his test and ODI career.
Jofra Archer:
Jofra Archer is one of the best pace bowlers going around the world at the moment and he had come up with a strange incident which was one of the reasons behind him missing the IPL 2021. In the January month before the Indian tour, Archer had cut his finger while cleaning the fish tank and a small part of the tank might have pierced him too.
It recovered well in time for the Indian tour but after the T20 series, Archer was taken another look to see if the wounds healed. His finger in the right hand was operated on again and it had to be rested for a while which shook him from the plans to get back in IPL. Archer was one of the stars in the 50 over World cup triumph for England in 2019.
Ben Foakes:
Ben Foakes was the latest addition to the strange list of injuries among the cricketers and it was certainly disheartening to see the English wicketkeeper being ruled out of New Zealand tests. Playing for the Sussex in county championships, against Middlesex, Foakes sustained a hamstring injury in the dressing room while walking with socks.
It proved to be very costly as the expecting healing period is a minimum of three months which might rule him also from the five-match test series against India. Foakes showed a lot of character in the tough turning tracks in India and was an important member of the England test team. Cricket might be a tough game sometimes while James Bracey has been called up as his replacement.
