The T20 World Cup is the next big event in 2021 after the World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand. The event is scheduled to be played in the UAE between October-November later this year. Ahead of the tournament, teams will play the T20I series between themselves which will be a preparatory ground for the respective teams. India too will play a limited-overs series against Sri Lanka in July which includes three T20Is as well.

As we build up to the big event, here is a look at the highest T20I score for respective teams by the players.

Australia- Aaron Finch 172 vs Zimbabwe

Aaron Finch scored 172 off 76 balls against Zimbabwe in 2018. His knock included 16 fours and 10 sixes. Australia scored 229/2 courtesy of Finch’s whirlwind knock.

In response, the African nation lost the game by exactly 100 runs scoring 129/9 in their 20 overs. Finch was awarded the Man of the Match for his knock.

England- Alex Hales 116* vs Sri Lanka

Hales scored his only T20I ton against Sri Lanka in the 2014 T20 World Cup in Chattogram in Bangladesh. Sri Lanka scored 189 batting first on the back of Tillakaratne Dishan’s 55 Mahela Jayawardene’s 89.

In reply, Hales scored an unbeaten 116 to chase down the score in the final over of the match. He remains England’s highest scorer in the format. His 64-ball knock included 11 fours and six sixes. Skipper Eoin Morgan played a good hand of 57 from 28 balls in the chase as well.

New Zealand- Brendon McCullum 123 vs Bangladesh

This knock from the former Kiwi skipper came in the 2012 T20 World Cup in Pallakele. Batting at number three he scored 123 off 58 balls with 11 fours and seven sixes. New Zealand finished on 191/3 in their 20 overs with James Franklin scoring 35 and Ross Taylor’s quickfire 14 in the final overs.

In reply, the Tigers scored 132 for 8 in their 20 overs as New Zealand won the match by 59 runs. Kyle Mills and Tim Southee took three wickets each with the ball.

Pakistan- Babar Azam 122 vs South Africa

Babar’s knock came earlier this year in Centurion. In the third T20I, South Africa scored 203/5 with their top six producing the goods. Janneman Malan and Aiden Markram scored the fifties as the middle-order chipped in with contributions.

In reply, opening the batting for Pakistan, Babar Azam scored 122 off 59 balls with 19 boundaries in total. He was aided by Mohammad Rizwan (73 off 47) as the dup added 197 runs for the first wicket which is one of the best openings stands in T20I cricket. The Men in Green won the match with two overs to spare.

Sri Lanka- Tillakaratne Dilshan 104* vs Australia

Dilshan scored 104 * vs Australia way back in 2011 in Pallakele. Kumar Sangakkara and Jeevan Mendis scored 30 each in the middle-order to take the Lankans to 198/3 in their 20 overs. Dilshan’s knock included 12 fours and five sixes.

In reply, Australia were restricted at 168-3 in their 20 overs as the Lankans won the match by 35 runs. Dilshan was awarded as the Man of the Match for his knock. Sri Lanka won the two-match T20I series.

South Africa- Faf du Plessis 119 vs West Indies

Du Plessis’s ton was scored in a losing cause for his team. He scored 119 from 56 balls in Johannesburg as Proteas scored 231/7 batting first. David Miller scored 47 the second-highest for the team in the game.

Windies chased down the target in style with four balls left in the game. Chris Gayle (90) and Marlon Samuels (60) anchored the chase as Darren Sammy scored 20 * off just seven to win it for his side in the end.

West Indies- Evin Lewis 125* vs India

Lewis scored an unbeaten 125 as West Indies chased down 191 against India in Jamaica in 2017. The Indian batting line-up fired in unison as they scored 190/6 in their 20 overs.

However, Lewis was too hot to handle on the day as he decimated the Indian bowlers in his 62-ball knock with six fours and 12 sixes. Marlon Samuels was unbeaten on 36 at the other end as the Windies side won the match with nine balls to spare.

India- Rohit Sharma 118 vs Sri Lanka

This was Rohit’s second T20I ton which came at the Holkar stadium in Indore in 2017. India scored a mammoth 260/5 in their 20 overs as the Hitman scored 118 and KL Rahul 89. Cameos from MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya took India to that score.

In reply, Sri Lanka could only muster 172 before being bowled out in less than 18 overs as India won the match by 88 runs. Rohit also led India in that game.
