The inaugural edition of the World Test Championship Finals ended in the favour of the New Zealand side who fought really hard to win the trophy and they deserved it. India was too complacent at times and their team selection wasn’t ideal in the conditions that favored the fast bowlers a lot.
Kyle Jamieson was adjudged the man of the match for his excellent seven-wicket haul in the match overall and his lower-order contribution that was very vital in the context of the game. Here is the updated list of the top 5 wicket-takers in the ICC World Test Championship after the final has got over.
ICC World Test Championship: Top 5 Highest Wicket Takers In The Tournament
Nathan Lyon:
Nathan Lyon is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the ICC World Test Championship with 56 wickets from 14 tests in the tournament. The Australian off-spinner picked up four five-wicket hauls in the process with the best figures of six wickets for 49 runs in an innings.
Lyon has done a brilliant job as he has been the only spinner in the side for the last seven to eight years along with the fast bowlers and he has always been on the mark despite the conditions favoring fast bowlers. Even if he isn’t getting those wickets, he has been always economical which has the highlight of his bowling plans.
Tim Southee:
Tim Southee has moved to fourth place for most wickets in the ICC World Test Championship with 56 wickets in just 11 tests. He picked up five wickets overall in the final against India and proved to be the leader of the pace attack of New Zealand.
Southee is very good with the new ball and his ability to swing it both ways has been a major problem for any batsman playing against him. He keeps both edges of the bat active and has been a huge factor for the Kiwis in winning the finals of the World Test Championship.
Stuart Broad:
Stuart Broad is one of the best fast bowlers in Test cricket going around in the world at the moment and it is not a surprise that he is the third-highest wicket-taker in the ICC World Test Championship. Broad has picked up 69 wickets in 17 Tests at an average of 20.08.
Broad is excellent in home conditions where he used his ability to swing as a great weapon and he has picked up two five-wicket hauls in the tournament with the best figures of 6 wickets for 31 runs. He is one of the all-time greatest bowlers for England and he is unplayable when he finds his rhythm.
Pat Cummins:
Pat Cummins is the number one ranked test bowler in the world and he was at the top position for most wickets in the ICC World Test Championship for a long time until the final. He finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 70 wickets in 14 Tests at an average of 21.02.
He has been taking wickets constantly and has looked reliable in any condition. Cummins has also been a handy option with the bat down the order and he is expected to rock the next ten years of international cricket with his pace and accuracy.
R Ashwin:
He picked up four wickets in the World Test Championship finals against New Zealand but couldn’t stop them from winning the title. He has been brilliant against the left-handers and it is unfortunate, that he couldn’t end up on the winning side in the finals.
