Mumbai Indians have always covered all their bases when it comes to overseas players and they tend to have the perfect backups for each and every role in the team. They had a decent IPL this season with four wins from the seven games and they would have gained a lot more confidence from the win in their last match against Chennai Super Kings.
However, the resumption of IPL in September might not be the best thing for them as they will miss out on some of the key players despite having backups. They will need to win at least four of their remaining games to make a progress into the playoffs and the defending champions did have a great IPL in UAE in the previous season. Here are 3 players from Mumbai Indians who might miss the 2nd leg.
IPL 2021: 3 Players From Mumbai Indians (MI) Who Might Miss The 2nd Leg:
Trent Boult:
Trent Boult has been one of the crucial factors behind the success of the Mumbai Indians and he has been phenomenal with his lines and lengths in the powerplay. His ability to move the ball both ways and his yorkers in the death overs has been a great tool to have for the captain in the side.
Boult turned a match on its head this season against the Kolkata Knight Riders with his toe-crushing yorkers and he has been partnering alongside Jasprit Bumrah to form a great potent bowling attack. He picked up 8 wickets in 7 games this season and he did cherish bowling in the UAE last year which assisted the fast bowlers a lot. Mumbai Indians will be worried if Boult isn’t available when IPL resumes.
James Neesham:
The 30-year-old just played one game this season against the Chennai Super Kings and he wasn’t much effective with the bat or the ball. However, he is one of the destructive finishers and does provide a lot of stability down the order. He can also be a wicket-taking bowler and a brilliant fielder on the outfield. He is also with the New Zealand international T20 squad and is expected to miss out.
Adam Milne:
Adam Milne is one of the quickest bowlers from the New Zealand squad and he can hit the bat hard. Milne has been with the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad in 2016 and 2017 and was bought by the Mumbai Indians this edition as a backup option mainly. He had to be sidelined mostly and he needed to wait for his opportunity.
He did get a game this year and bowled three overs in the game conceding 33 runs at an economy rate of 11. Mumbai Indians will expect a lot more from the speedster and the 29-year-old can the third bowler in the playing XI alongside Bumrah and Boulf if he starts to keep it right. With the New Zealand players not likely to take part when IPL resumes, Milne will also miss out on the Mumbai Indians.
