Mumbai Indians defended their title last season after clinching the IPL 2020 trophy. The team had defeated Chennai Super Kings by 1 run in IPL 2019 final. Ahead of IPL 2021 auction, Mumbai Indians released 7 players out of their squad. The five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians had an available salary cap of Rs. 15.35 during IPL 2021 auction. With this budget, Mumbai Indians bought 7 players into their team.
Mumbai Indians had released Nathan Coulter-Nile ahead of the mini-auction but re-bought the Australian pacer for Rs. 5 crore. Mumbai Indians also bought New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne for Rs. 3.2 crore. Piyush Chawla, who was released by Chennai Super Kings earlier, became part of Mumbai Indians for Rs. 2.4 crore in IPL 2021. Mumbai Indians also bought New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham for Rs. 50 lakh. Youngsters Yudhvir Charak, Marco Jansen, and Arjun Tendulkar were bought for Rs. 20 lakh each.
After IPL 2021 auction, Mumbai Indians have these players in their squad- Rohit Sharma, Aditya Tare, Anmolpreet Singh, Anukul Roy, Dhawal Kulkarni, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, Jayant Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Quinton de Kock, Rahul Chahar, Suryakumar Yadav, Trent Boult, Chris Lynn, Saurabh Tiwary, Mohsin Khan, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Adam Milne, Piyush Chawla, James Neesham, Yudhvir Charak, Marco Jansen and Arjun Tendulkar.
Mumbai Indians is the most successful franchisee in the Indian Premier League-winning five titles so far. Mumbai Indians have many experienced and well-known bowlers and batsmen in their squad. Due to this reason, there might be few players who will not get a chance to be part of playing 11 throughout the IPL 2021 season. Here we look at five cricketers from MI who might be benched throughout IPL 2021 tournament.
IPL 2021: 5 Players From Mumbai Indians Who Might Be Benched Throughout The Tournament
Aditya Tare
Wicketkeeper-batsman Aditya Tare is part of Mumbai Indians since 2018 but is yet to play any game for the team. In 2018, a thump injury affected his presence on the field. However, in the 2019 edition too, Mumbai Indians preferred wicket-keepers Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock in the playing 11. Tare was benched in the last two seasons and he might have to do the same in IPL 2021 too. Aditya Tare last played a match in IPL 2017. In the season, he played 3 matches in which he scored 18 runs.
Mohsin Khan
Mohsin Khan was first bought by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018. Later in IPL 2020 auction, Mumbai Indians again bought the left-arm pacer and since then he is part of the MI franchisee. Mohsin Khan hasn’t made his IPL debut and has been out of the playing 11 so far.
The 22-year-old youngster represents the Uttar Pradesh team at the domestic level. Khan has featured in 1 First-class, 14 List A and 23 T20 matches so far. Mumbai Indians already have excellent pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Dhawal Kulkarni, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Adam Milne in the team. Therefore, an opportunity for Mohsin Khan to be part of playing 11 in IPL 2021 is highly unlikely.
Yudhvir Charak
Yudhvir Charak was one of the support players for MI in IPL 2020 and the franchisee decided to buy him in IPL 2021 auction. The 23-year-old all-rounder plays for the Hyderabad team at the domestic level.
Yudhvir Charak has found his place in the team but he might have to sit on the bench throughout the IPL 2021 season. Mumbai Indians already have Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya and James Neesham lined up for the all-rounder’s spot. Yudhvir Charak might have to wait for his inclusion in the playing 11.
Marco Jansen
South African cricketer Marco Jansen became part of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 auction. He is a left-arm pacer and right-handed batsman. The 20-year-old all-rounder has played 12 First class, 13 List A and 9 T20 matches at the domestic level. Mumbai Indians already have top-class all-rounders in their squad and hence, Jansen might be benched throughout IPL 2021 season.
Arjun Tendulkar
MI bought Arjun Tendulkar in IPL 2021 auction after considering him to be a good future investment for the franchisee. Mumbai Indians was the only franchisee who showed interest in the 21-year-old cricketer during the auction.
Arjun Tendulkar is an all-rounder who has played for the India U-19 team and Mumbai cricket team at the domestic level. Arjun Tendulkar is quite inexperienced to bag a chance in playing 11 of Indians. He might be benched throughout the season and will have to wait for more time to enter the field in the Indian Premier League.
