Chennai Super Kings franchise has a massive fan following all over the country. The team has been part of the Indian Premier League since the debut edition in IPL 2008. Chennai Super Kings have been led by MS Dhoni since the first edition. The MS Dhoni-led side has won IPL titles in three editions- IPL 2010, IPL 2011, and IPL 2018. IPL 2008

The MS Dhoni-side showed a stupendous performance in the debut season and reached the final. CSK lost to Rajasthan Royals in the final. They played 16 matches in IPL 2008, out of which they lost 9 and won 7. In the season, the men-in-yellow scored 2520 runs. Suresh Raina was CSK’s highest run-scorer in the tournament with 421 runs in 14 innings followed by MS Dhoni with 414 runs in an equal no of innings.

In IPL 2009, CSK managed to qualify for the semi-final but lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore. The MS Dhoni and boys played 15 matches in the season, out of which they won 8 and lost 6. One game ended with no result. The team scored 2231 runs in the 2nd edition of the Indian Premier League. Matthew Hayden was the highest run-getter for CSK as well as in the tournament with 572 runs in 12 matches.

In IPL 2010, Chennai Super Kings won their first IPL title. They defeated Mumbai Indians in the final to bag the trophy. The men-in-yellow played 16 matches in the season, out of which they won 9 and lost 7. The team scored 2595 runs in 16 matches. Suresh Raina was the highest run-scorer for the team with 520 runs in 16 matches. Murali Vijay followed Raina with 458 runs in 15 matches.

In IPL 2011, the MS Dhoni and co. defended their title after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. As a result, the team won the trophy for consecutive 2nd time. They played 16 matches in the tournament, winning 11 and losing 5. The men-in-yellow smashed 2590 runs in the tournament, more than any other team. Michael Hussey was the team’s highest run-getter with 492 runs in 14 innings. Suresh Raina and Murali Vijay smashed 438 and 434 runs respectively in 16 matches.

Chennai Super Kings were the runners-up in IPL 2012 as they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. However, the MS Dhoni and boys showed a fabulous performance in the season. CSK played 19 matches in the season, bagging victories in 10 games and losing 8. One match ended with no result.

The team scored 2831 runs in the season and was the highest run-scorer in the edition. Suresh Raina was the highest run-getter for the team with 441 runs in 18 innings. Faf du Plessis followed Raina with 398 runs in 12 innings.

MS Dhoni and boys were the runners-up for the 2nd consecutive time in IPL 2013 as they lost the final to Mumbai Indians. The men-in-yellow played 18 matches, winning 12 and losing 6. They scored 2778 runs in the season, 2nd most after Mumbai Indians’ 2975 runs. CSK’s Michael Hussey was the orange cap winner in the season with 733 runs in 17 innings. Suresh Raina scored 548 runs was the 4th highest run-scorer in the season.

In IPL 2014, Chennai Super Kings entered the playoffs but finished in the 3rd spot. The team lost to Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 2 match. CSK played 16 matches in IPL 2014, out of which they won 10 and lost 6. The men-in-yellow smashed 2650 runs in the season and were the highest run-getters. Dwayne Smith was the highest run-scorer for CSK and 2nd highest overall with 566 runs in 16 matches. Suresh Raina followed him with 523 runs in 16 games.

In IPL 2015, the MS Dhoni and boys again came close to winning the trophy. Chennai Super Kings lost to Mumbai Indians in the final and ended as the runners-up. CSK played 17 matches in the tournament, winning 10 and losing 7. They scored 2725 runs in the tournament and ended as the highest run-scoring team in the tournament. Brendon McCullum was the highest run-scorer for CSK with 436 runs in 14 innings. Dwayne Smith also scored 399 runs in 16 innings for the team while Faf du Plessis piled up 380 runs in 15 innings.

In IPL 2018, Chennai Super Kings made an astonishing comeback in the tournament after being banned for the last two seasons. Again, under the leadership of MS, CSK won the IPL title for the third time after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. The franchise played 16 matches in the season, out of which they won 11 and lost 5.

The tournament champions again scored most runs in the tournament than any other team, piling up 2809 runs in the season. Ambati Rayudu was CSK’s highest run-scorer with 602 runs in 16 innings. Shane Watson followed him with 555 runs in 15 innings.

After winning the trophy last season, Chennai Super Kings again entered the final in IPL 2019 but lost to Mumbai Indians. The nail-biting match saw CSK losing the final game by just 1 run on the final ball. As a result, they finished as runners-up. They played 17 matches in the season, winning 10 and losing 7. The team scored 2473 runs in the season. MS Dhoni was the team’s highest run-scorer with 416 runs in 12 innings.

In IPL 2020, Chennai Super Kings showed their worst performance in IPL. It was the first time that CSK did not manage to enter the playoffs. The men-in-yellow played 14 matches in the tournament, out of which they won 6 matches and lost 8. They scored 2191 runs in the season. Faf du Plessis was the team’s highest run-getter with 449 runs in 13 innings. Ambati Rayudu scored 359 runs in 11 innings while no other CSK batsman could surpass the 300-run mark.

The MS Dhoni and co. came up with a stupendous performance in IPL 2021. The team won 5 matches out of 7 and held the 2nd spot in the points table before the tournament got suspended. When the tournament got suspended, CSK was the highest run-getter with 1285 runs. Once again, Faf du Plessis was the leading run-scorer for the team with 320 runs in 7 matches along with 4 fifties.
