Kolkata Knight Riders have played all the 14 editions of IPL so far and won the title twice. The franchise won the trophy in IPL 2012 and IPL 2014 under the captainship of Gautam Gambhir. Out of the 13 editions of the Indian Premier League excluding IPL 2021, KKR have qualified for playoffs on 6 occasions. They reached the finals on two occasions and won the title both times.

In the past, Sorav Ganguly, Brendon McCullum, Gautam Gambhir, and Dinesh Karthik have led the team in IPL tournaments. Since IPL 2020, Eoin Morgan has been leading the team. In the 14 editions so far, KKR have scored 30,493 runs after playing 203 matches. This gives an average of 2260 runs per season. Kolkata Knight Riders were led by Sourav Ganguly in the debut edition of 2008. The team finished on the 6th spot out of 8 teams. The team played 14 matches, out of which they won 6 and lost 7. One match ended with no result. Kolkata Knight Riders scored 1942 runs in the season, least than any other team. Sourav Ganguly was the highest run-scorer for the team with 349 runs in 13 innings, followed by David Hussey with 319 runs.

IPL 2009

In 2009, the team was led by Brendon McCullum. They finished on the last 8th spot after a poor show in the season. KKR played 14 matches in the season, losing 10 and winning just 3. One game ended with no result. The Brendon McCullum-led side scored 1757 runs in the tournament. Brad Hodge was the highest run-getter for the team with 365 runs in 12 matches. The rest of the KKR players could not cross the 300-run mark.

In IPL 2010, Kolkata Knight Riders were again led by Sourav Ganguly. They finished on the 6th spot in the points table. Out of 14 matches that the team played, they emerged victorious in 7 matches and faced defeat in 7. The franchise piled up 2144 runs in the tournament. Sourav Ganguly was the highest run-getter for the team with 493 runs in 14 matches. No other KKR player could cross the 300-run mark.

In IPL 2011, Kolkata Knight Riders qualified for playoffs for the first time after finishing on the 4th spot in the points table. Gautam Gambhir led the team this time. They lost to Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator match. Out of 15 encounters in the season, KKR won 8 matches and lost and lost 7. The team scored 2023 runs in the tournament. Jacques Kallis emerged as the highest run-scorer for the team with 424 runs in 14 innings.

In IPL 2013, Kolkata Knight Riders witnessed a poor show after finishing on the 7th spot on the points table. The team played 16 matches in the season, out of which they won 6 and lost 10. The team accounted for 2290 runs in the season. Gautam Gambhir was again the highest run-scorer for the team with 406 runs in 16 innings.

In IPL 2014, KKR won their second IPL title after defeating Punjab Kings in the final. The team won 11 matches and lost 5 out of the 16 games they played in the tournament. The team smashed 2488 runs in the tournament. Robin Uthappa emerged as the highest run-scorer of the team in the tournament with 660 runs in 16 innings.

The franchise finished on the 5th spot in the points table in IPL 2015 and failed to qualify for playoffs. Out of 14 games, KKR won 7 and lost 6 while 1 game ended with no result. They piled up 2044 runs in the edition. Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir were the highest run-scorers of the team with 364 runs and 327 runs respectively in 13 innings.

In IPL 2016, Kolkata Knight Riders qualified for playoffs after finishing on the 4th spot in the points table after the group stage. However, they lost the Eliminator match to Sunrisers Hyderabad which ended their journey in the season. The franchise played 15 matches in the season, winning 8 and losing 7. They scored 2263 runs in the season. Gautam Gambhir emerged as the top run-scorer for the team with 501 runs in 15 innings.

In IPL 2017, the team again booked a berth in the playoffs. The Gautam Gambhir and boys finished on the 3rd spot in the points table after the group stage. However, they lost to Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 match and were ousted from the tournament. Out of 16 matches in the tournament, the team won 9 matches and lost 7. They smashed 2484 runs in the season. Gautam Gambhir was the team’s highest run-scorer with 498 runs in 16 innings.

The team was led by Dinesh Karthik in IPL 2018. The team qualified for playoffs after finishing on the 3rd spot in the points table. Their journey ended after they lost Qualifier 2 game to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kolkata Knight Riders played a total of 16 matches in the season, out of which they won 9 and lost 7. They scored 2759 runs in the season. Dinesh Karthik was the team’s highest run-getter with 498 runs in 16 innings.

In IPL 2020, Kolkata Knight Riders once again finished on the 5th spot in the points table and lost the qualification to playoffs. Dinesh Karthik led the team at the start but Eoin Morgan replaced him as the new skipper midway during the tournament. The team won 7 matches and lost 7 out of a total of 14 matches in the tournament. They piled up 2219 runs in the season. Shubman Gill was the team’s highest run-scorer with 440 runs in 14 innings.

In IPL 2021, KKR won 5 matches out of 7 and lost 2 before the tournament got suspended. The team finished in the 7th spot out of 8 teams. KKR scored 1110 runs in the season before the tournament was postponed. Nitish Rana was the leading run-scorer for the team with 201 runs in 7 innings.
