ICC (International Cricket Council) ranks batsmen, bowlers, and all-rounders on the basis of their ratings. After every international tournament and bilateral series, ICC updates the batting, bowling, and all-rounders’ ranking lists according to the latest ratings. This procedure is followed in all three formats- Test, ODI, and T20I.
Bowling in T20Is is a tough task. A bowler gets a maximum of only 4 overs in a match and he has to showcase his best efforts. However, many bowlers have displayed outstanding bowling shows in T20I format in the past which enabled them to get a high career rating. Here we take a look at team-wise one bowler who has achieved the highest career rating in T20I.
Team Wise One Bowler Who Has Achieved The Highest Career Rating In T20Is
England- Graeme Swann (760)
For England, former spinner Graeme Swann has achieved the highest ratings in bowling in the T20I format. The right-arm off-break bowler had achieved a rating of 760 in September 2010. This is the highest ratings achieved by an England bowler so far. Swann retired from international cricket in December 2013. Swann played 39 T20I matches and picked 51 wickets. He had an economy of 6.36 and best bowling figures of 3/13.
Sri Lanka- Ajantha Mendis (762)
For Sri Lanka, former spinner Ajantha Mendis has achieved the highest career rating in bowling. The right-arm bowler had achieved a career rating of 762 in October 2012. Mendis retired from international cricket in December 2015. He played 39 T20I matches, in which he scalped 66 wickets. He had an economy of 6.45 while bowling and best bowling figures of 6/8 in a match.
India- Ravichandran Ashwin (765)
Among Indian players, Ravichandran Ashwin has achieved the highest ratings while bowling in T20Is. The right arm-spinner achieved a career rating of 765 in February 2016. Currently, Ashwin is not a regular part of the Indian squad in the T20I format. He last played a T20I game against West Indies in July 2017. With his absence in T20Is for a long time, he has dropped to 176th rank in the latest ICC rankings. The 34-year-old has played 46 T20I matches so far, picking 52 wickets. He has an economy of 6.98 and best bowling stats of 4/8.
Australia- Shaun Tait (769)
Former Australia pacer Shaun Tait has achieved the highest ratings in ICC’s T20I rankings among Aussie players. The right-arm pacer earned a rating of 769 in T20Is in July 2010. Tait retired from all forms of cricket in March 2017. Despite his wild pace, Tait only managed a short career in the national team. He played 21 matches in his T20I career, picking 28 wickets. He had an economy of 7.39 and best bowling figures of 3/13 in a match.
South Africa- Imran Tahir (795)
For South Africa, former spinner Imran Tahir has achieved the highest ratings in T20Is. In February 2017, Tahir achieved a career rating of 795. The right-arm spinner retired from international cricket after ICC ODI World Cup 2019. In 38 T20I matches, the leg spinner scalped 63 wickets. He had an economy of 6.73 and best bowling figures of 5/23 in a match.
New Zealand – Daniel Vettori (850)
For New Zealand, their former national skipper Daniel Vettori has achieved the highest career ratings in the T20I format. In February 2010, the left-arm spinner Vettori earned a rating of 850. The 42-year-old has played 34 T20I matches, in which he picked 38 wickets. He has a superb economy of 5.7 and best bowling figures of 4/20 in a match.
West Indies- Samuel Badree (855)
For West Indies, Samuel Badree has achieved the highest ratings in bowling in the T20I format. The right-arm spinner earned a rating of 855 in April 2014. Badree last played a T20I match for West Indies in August 2018 against Bangladesh. In 52 T20I games so far, Badree has picked 56 wickets. He has an economy of 6.18 while bowling. His best bowling figures in a T20I game stand at 4/15.
Pakistan- Umar Gul (857)
For Pakistan, former pacer Umar Gul has achieved the highest career ratings in T20Is. The right-arm pacer achieved a rating of 857 in June 2009. This is the highest career rating earned by a Pakistan bowler in T20Is. Gul retired from all forms of cricket in October 2020. In 60 T20Is, Gul scalped 85 wickets. He has an economy of 7.19 and best blowing figures of 5/6 in a match.
