England National Cricket Team History

  • The first recorded incidence of a team with a claim to represent England comes from 9 July 1739 when an "All-England" team consisting of players from any part of England exclusive of Kent, played against "the Unconquerable County" of Kent.
  • England played the first-ever Test match in cricket in 1877 against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The England cricket team lost the game by 45 runs.
  • The fierce Ashes series against Australia began in the 1880s after a loss at home.
  • England featured in the first-ever ODI in 1971 when they locked horns against Australia. In 2005, they played their first-ever T20I against Australia.
