The team is governed by the Gujarat Cricket Association and plays its home games at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Talking about Gujarat cricket team's history, the team was founded in the year 1935 and made its first-class debut against Bombay in 1935. It made it to the final of the Ranji Trophy for the first time in 1950-51 season and lost the game against Holkar.
Gujarat won their maiden Ranji Trophy Plate League title by defeating Railways in the 2007-08 season. In 2012-13 season, the Gujarat cricket team won the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy with a win over Punjab in the final. They won the tournament once again in 2014-15 season before winning the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2015-16 season.
After failing to win the Ranji Trophy for decades, Gujarat finally went all the way in the 2016-17 season. Up against heavyweights Mumbai, the Parthiv Patel-led side went on to win the game to create history. Led by their captain Patel's fine century, Gujarat pulled off the highest successful chase in the history of Ranji Trophy finals to win the game.
