Australia National Team cricketers lauded ace Indian batter Virat Kohli, while picking their ODI XI for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh described Virat Kohli as ‘probably the greatest ODI player’ to have ever played in the history of the game.
Virat Kohli is gearing up for his fourth appearance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, which is set to be played from October 5 to November 19. The right-handed batter was a crucial part of India’s squad that clinched the title under MS Dhoni’s leadership on home soil in 2011.
Virat Kohli Has All The Shots In The Book – Travis Head
In a video shared on the Fox Cricket channel, Australian cricketers, such as Mitchell Marsh, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, and Ashton Agar, spoke highly of Virat Kohli.
“Virat Kohli is probably the best ODI player ever to play the game,” Mitchell Marsh told Fox cricket.
“Virat Kohli has great confidence, and his skill set is incredible. His game awareness and the way read the game is outstanding. He has all the shots in the book,” Head said.
“He moves beautifully from ball one, where some guys maybe take a few balls to get their innings,” Carey said.
“I mean, just his ability in white-ball cricket to have precision and touch, but power is his biggest asset,” Labuschagne said.
“There’s normally two fielders in One Day cricket, mid wicket and cover; they protect inside the ring. When there are guys in the deep protecting them, Virat Kohli is one of the best I’ve seen, missing mid wicket and cover by a meter; that gives him four or two every time,” Khawaja said.
“He is someone who thrives on the big games, and in a World XI team in the World Cup, he is going to be the best number three,” Starc said.
“He wins games off his own bat all the time, particularly when he is chasing under pressure. He’s the ultimate player in one-day cricket. His ability to go up and down the gears, facing fast or spin, is massive and very intimidating to play against,” Agar said.
In the 2019 World Cup, Kohli scored 443 runs in nine innings at an impressive average of 55.38 and a strike rate of 94.06. Overall, he has scored 1030 runs in his 26 World Cup matches at an average of 46.81, with the highest score of 107 against Pakistan in the 2015 edition.
