The team has already announced its World Cup squad much before. The three prime pacers i.e. Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf were added to the squad.

Nut just before the World Cup the team had to play the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan & Sri Lanka where they got a big blow when one of the prime pacers Naseem Shah got injured during a match against India in the Super 8.

This was a very big blow for the team before the World Cup and the team announced Hasin Ali as his replacement. So the team will miss the service of Naseem Shah in this World Cup.

Pakistan Skipper Babar Azam made a comment on Naseem Shah’s injury before the World Cup

While attending a press conference at Gaddafi Stadium ahead of the team’s departure to India for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the Pakistan skipper answered many questions regarding Pakistan’s preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.

On a question asked by the press on Naseem Shah’s injury, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam said,” Of course we will miss Naseem Shah as Shaheen [Afridi] and Naseem bowling together gave us a different edge. It was not easy to pick his replacement, but we all sat together and got input from [chief selector] Inzamam ul Haq. We went with Hasan Ali because he has experience.”

“He has played the World Cup before. I cannot comment who will bowl the new ball or the old ball, as we cannot reveal our strategies right now. But we have not made any concrete plans right now, it will become more clear to us when we travel to India and assess the conditions,” Babar Azam further added.

Hasan Ali is most likely to play the starting match against the Netherlands on 6th October.
