Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is all set to lead his team in the ICC World Cup 2023. The team has reportedly left for India after they were issued their visas after an unwanted delay.

This is the first World Cup for Babar Azam as captain and the entire nation is expecting him to win the World Cup for the second time. Pakistan won their one and only World Cup title in 1992 under Imran Khan’s leadership. Since then, they have played the final only once in the 1999 World Cup edition in England.

The team has failed to reach the finals since the start of 2000 in the ICC World Cup. Babar Azam who has been the captain of Pakistan for more than a couple of years now have already led them in two T20 World Cups. Under him, Pakistan reached the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2021 and the final of the 2022 T20 World Cup edition. Unfortunately, they lost to England in the final.

Pakistan were the number one-ranked side heading into the Asia Cup 2023. However, a below-par performance from the side saw them not only get kicked out of the tournament but also lose their number-one rankings to arch-rivals India.

As the team left for the World Cup, Babar Azam took to Twitter and asked the fans of the Pakistan Cricket team to keep supporting the team and the players as they ventured to chase glory.

“As we head for the World Cup, we seek prayers of all the Pakistan cricket team fans and well-wishers. I am certain that you will continue to extend your support and love, which you have always done. Pakistan Zindabad” wrote Babar on his official Twitter handle.

Meanwhile, Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq is said to have played a pivotal role in resolving long-standing problems between the players and the PCB. Babar also said that the negotiations are still being discussed and he is hopeful about a positive result.

“As far as the contracts are concerned, they are still being negotiated, but we are hopeful they will work out as the PCB always has our interests at heart” said Babar before leaving for India.

Pakistan begin their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on October 6 in Hyderabad. They take on India in the big clash in Ahmedabad on September 14.
