Over the years, one has seen just how much cricketers around the world love to play Test cricket, and South Africa star David Miller is not an exception either. The left-handed batsman has played more than 250 games for his national team in international cricket but is yet to don the Test jersey.

David Miller made his debut for South Africa way back in 2010 and has been one of the most explosive middle-order batsmen since then. He has also played as many as 63 first-class matches but has not played a Test match to date and is unlikely to do so in his career. In fact, David Miller now holds the record for playing the most number of international games without playing a Test match, a record that he does not want to have.

He has played in 274 international games without playing a Test. The nearest contender for the non-Test record is former West Indies allrounder Keiron Pollard who played 224 international games. Speaking to AFP, David Miller stated that he would have loved to play Test cricket but seems to have made peace with the fact that he has yet to do so.

“I would have loved to play a Test, but it is what it is,” said David Miller.

“I’ve achieved quite a lot in my white-ball stuff and I’m grateful to have played so many games,” added the 34-year-old.

David Miller on his First-class career:

Speaking further, David Miller opened up on his First-class career. South African cricket was blessed with players such as Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, and Faf du Plessis when David Miller was trying to break into the Test side. While he did well in first-class cricket, he failed to break into the South Africa Test side. And after years of disappointment, he retired from first-class cricket in 2018.

“I wasn’t being picked, even for the South Africa A side. There were guys ahead of me so I decided to concentrate on the white-ball stuff,” said the Proteas star.

He, however, did not let the disappointment of not being able to play Test cricket hamper his prospects in white-ball cricket. He has been one of the most dangerous middle-order batsmen for quite some time now and will soon be seen in action in the World Cup. South Africa is not considered a favorite by many but David Miller is confident of a good show from his side as he said:

“The World Cup is very open. We’re a pretty experienced team. We’re capable of doing it, so it’s a matter of getting the basics right for longer periods of time.”
