David Miller Warns Other Teams To Beware Of South African Threat In ICC World Cup 2023
South Africa had a terrible outing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 where they finished seventh on the table, they faced a defeat against Bangladesh for the first time in ICC events.
This time, South Africa is looking different, they are coming into the tournament after beating Australia 3-2 in the ODI series and the players are looking in great form. They are the 4th-ranked team in the ICC ODI Rankings and have five batters in the Top 15 of the ICC Metrics.
South Africa’s batting looks formidable as they have recently thrashed Australia in the ODI series. It won’t be wrong to say that South Africa does look like a side that will do something very special in this World Cup.
David Miller who is ranked 15th in the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings for Batters has shown his faith in the team and he believes that South Africa won’t lose out on the chance of creating history this time.
Since the last World Cup only six batters have scored more than 1000 runs with a strike rate of 100 or more and three of them- David Miller, Heinrich Klassen, and Aiden Markram are South Africans.
Since the last World Cup Rassie van der Dussen and captain Temba Bavuma have averaged around 50 and Quinton de Kock has retained his place in the top 10 rankings throughout. David Miller has averaged 60.7 with a stunning strike rate of 114.15 since the 2019 World Cup.
“South Africa Have Performed Consistently Well,” Says David Miller
“We genuinely believe that we can do something special, The reality is we haven’t won a World Cup so there’s no point brushing that under the carpet. But personally, I don’t live with those things on my shoulders. The past is the past. It doesn’t impact me at all.”
“It’s about what’s in front of you…the next ball, your next moment. I know the other guys are in the same mindset. We’re looking at it as a chance to create history. What a brilliant opportunity this is. If we play well, we know we’ve got a helluva chance,” said Miller.
South Africa will kick off their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign against Sri Lanka in Delhi on 7th October. This time it is Temba Bavuma who will lead the side and with the current form of South African players, they can definitely see themselves in the top 4 competing in the semi-finals in the near future.
