England captain Jos Buttler came up with a witty response to a journalist who came up with a bizarre question during the World Cup Captains Day event in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (October 5).
The captains of all the ten participating teams attended the event this week and took part in a pre-World Cup press conference. And during the same event, one of the journalists bizarrely asked Jos Buttler how England’s bowling will adapt without James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
None of them are a part of England’s white-ball teams at present. In fact, both of them have not played for England in ODIs for almost a decade. Anderson has not played an ODI for England since 2015 while Broad’s last ODI appearance came in 2016. Earlier this year, Broad also announced his retirement from all forms of the game and is currently plying his trade as a cricket analyst.
Jos Buttler’s just been asked how England’s bowling will adapt without Anderson and Broad. He responded by saying Jimmy was still available for selection.

But the journalist was unaware of the reason behind Anderson and Broad’s absence from the England World Cup squad. He decided to ask the captain about it. And Jos Buttler handled the situation brilliantly as he came up with a witty reply, saying: “I think Jimmy is still available for selection. He has not played since 2015 and I don’t think Stuart has either even though he has retired. Those two guys unfortunately won’t be a part of this tournament. But yes we do have a really good side of fast bowlers, spinners – a nicely-balanced team.”

Jos Buttler-led England look to defend title:
Meanwhile, Jos Buttler will be looking to guide England to their second ODI World Cup title. England are one of the favorites to win the title and become only the third team after West Indies and Australia to win back-to-back World Cup titles.
The reigning champions are already the reigning ODI and T20I world champions and will be keen to extend their reign. They are scheduled to open their campaign in the World Cup on Thursday (October 5) against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
