Former England skipper Eoin Morgan has kept the doors open for a coaching role in the future. In June last year, the former batsman announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Eoin Morgan ended his playing career as one of England’s all-time greats. In 2019, he led the team to its first-ever ODI World Cup title. England also reached the pinnacle of the ODI and T20I rankings under his captaincy. At the time of his retirement, he was England’s leading run-scorer in ODIs and T20Is with 6,957 and 2,458 runs respectively.

While his ODI record is still intact, Jos Buttler has overtaken him in T20Is. Eoin Morgan’s tally of 225 ODIs and 115 T20s is also an England record. The former England captain, who began his international career with Ireland, is also the first England player to play 100 T20Is and 200 ODIs.

After bringing down the curtains on his illustrious playing career, the England great has been plying his trade as an analyst for Sky Sports. And while Eoin Morgan has said that he is loving his current job, he has not ruled out the possibility of taking up a coaching role in the future.

“I’m absolutely loving what I’m doing at the moment,” Eoin Morgan tells Mirror Sport. “I only retired from international cricket last year and domestic cricket this year.

“For me, it’s (about) spending more time at home, which broadcasting allows me to do. But maybe down the line (I’ll move into coaching). I certainly haven’t ruled coaching out at all, so I definitely would consider it when the time comes,” he added.

Eoin Morgan loving retired life:

This will be the first ODI World Cup since 2007 that Eoin Morgan won’t be participating in as a player. In 2007, he played for Ireland before plying his trade for England in 2011, 2015, and 2019 editions of the competition. He, however, does not miss the feeling the playing in a World Cup now and is more than happy as a retired cricketer.

“No, not at all… every day since I’ve stopped playing, I couldn’t think of anything worse than going out and playing in a game. It just emphasizes how spent I was when I was finished. It’s a completely different experience as well (being a pundit),” said Eoin Morgan when asked whether he misses the feeling of playing the World Cup.
