Pakistan vice-captain Shadab Khan has revealed the hilarious reason behind his team’s failure to win the warm-up games ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023. On Tuesday (October 3), Pakistan lost their second warm-up game too. They are one of the only two teams who will enter the World Cup after losing both of their warm-up matches.
Last week, the Men in Green suffered a five-wicket loss against New Zealand while defending 345 runs. And on Tuesday, they lost by 14 runs against Australia while chasing a big total of 352 runs. Half-centuries from Iftikhar Ahmed (83), Babar Azam (90), and Mohammad Nawaz (50) put Pakistan in a good position but they eventually finished on 337 runs, 14 runs short of Australia’s total of 351.
After the game, Pakistan’s stand-in captain Shadab Khan was asked about the famous Hyderabadi Biriyani. The Pakistan team is staying in Hyderabad since landing in India last week. In reply, the leg-spinner came up with a hilarious comment, saying that Biriyani is responsible for his teammates getting a bit slow on the field.
“We are eating it daily, and perhaps that is why we are getting a bit slow (laughs),” Shadab Khan told the broadcasters.

Shadab Khan on losing the game:
Speaking further, Shadab Khan insisted that the result of the warm-up games is not important for his side. He stated that the warm-up games have helped Pakistan finalize their playing eleven for the World Cup while also saying that the team has gained confidence after playing against New Zealand and Australia.
“Result is not important. We took a lot of positives. Our attitude was good, result not in our hands. I think our 11 is sorted, we just wanted to give time to the bench to show their skills. When you play against Australia and New Zealand, you get confidence. We got a little bit experience of conditions [in Hyderabad],” said Shadab Khan.
Pakistan will launch its campaign in the World Cup on Friday (October 6) when they lock horns against the Netherlands in Hyderabad. Before that, England and New Zealand will take on each other in the tournament opener on Thursday in Ahmedabad.
