Former England cricketer Nasser Hussain expressed his confidence in skipper Jos Buttler’s ability to achieve success in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. Nasser Hussain emphasized Jos Buttler’s decision to re-call all-rounder Ben Stokes, calling it the right decision.
The Jos Buttler-led team will enter the marquee tournament as one of the title contenders. England are coming to the showpiece event with a 3-1 series victory against New Zealand at home. They have the opportunity to defend their title after the West Indies and Australia.
Jos Buttler Won A World Cup As A Player And A Captain – Nasser Hussain
When asked if he could offer advice to Jos Buttler for the upcoming World Cup, Nasser Hussain said that Buttler had already achieved World Cup success as both a player and captain.
“He’s already won a World Cup as a player, and he’s already won a World Cup as a captain. He will know exactly what to do in any given situation, he’s been there and done it,” Hussain said in an interview with Mirror.co.uk.
“He’s already done the right thing with Stokes (persuading him to come out of retirement). He doesn’t need any advice from me at all. He knows India very well, I think that’ll be very useful.”
Buttler was part of England’s first ODI World Cup victory under the leadership of Eoin Morgan in 2021. He took over the charge as the England white-ball skipper and won the T20 World Cup in 2022 in his first assignment.
India Are Favourites – Nasser Hussain
Nasser Hussain believes India will win their first World Cup in 12 years due to their good form. He also emphasized the importance of home advantage, noting that the last three ODI World Cups were won by host nations.
“India are favourites. They’re the No.1 ranked side at the moment… and as history tells you, if you’re playing your cricket (well) and ranked No.1 – as England were before the last World Cup – that means you’re in a good space. Home advantage as we’ve seen with England (in 2019) and Australia (in 2015)… is absolutely vital.”
The Three Lions will kick off their World Cup campaign with a match against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5.
