Liam Livingstone Believes Ben Stokes' Presence Will Boost England's Chances Of Defending Their World Cup Title In 2023

England all-rounder Liam Livingstone believes that Ben Stokes could play a crucial role in defending the title in the ICC World Cup 2023. Liam Livingstone emphasized that Ben Stokes’ contributions were crucial in securing victories in both the ODI and T20 World Cups.

Ben Stokes announced his retirement from the 50-over format in July 2022, citing that he couldn’t play in all three formats. However, he made himself available for selection for the national team ahead of the upcoming World Cup, which is set to begin on October 5.

Liam Livingstone emphasized how the experience gained during the 2019 World Cup contributed to the team’s performance in 2022. He mentioned that Ben Stokes drew on his experience from the 2019 WC to excel in the 2022 event.

“It’s huge. The experience of 2019 probably helped us last year in 2022 with the lads we had out there. Certainly Stokesy [Ben Stokes], in particular, having played a massive role in 2019, I have no doubt it gave him the clarity to do that in ’22.

Like I said, we’ve got a lot of experience in our group, a lot of cricket played under our belts. The lads have got great memories of World Cups, the last two have gone well, so hopefully we can continue that,” Livingstone said.

Stokes was named Player of the Match for his brilliant performance in the 2019 World Cup final against New Zealand at Lord’s. The left-handed batter also scored a crucial half-century off 52 runs in the final against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

The 30-year-old batter strongly believes that Ben Stokes’ presence is a tremendous asset to their team, highlighting the positive influence he brings both on and off the field.

“It’s great. Any team with Ben Stokes in it is a better team. Everybody loves having Ben around, it’s not just on the pitch but in the changing room, away from cricket,” he further stated.

“He’s just a great competitor and I think anybody in the world would have Ben Stokes in their team. It’s a massive boost for us and I’m sure Ben’s looking forward to it,” he concluded.

The Jos Buttler-led team will kick off their World Cup campaign with a match against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5.
