In his absence, Mehidy Hasan Miraz led Bangladesh in the encounter against Sri Lanka. It is also expected that Shakib Al Hasan might miss more games in ICC World Cup 2023.

Mashrafe Mortaza Lashes Out At Fans In Facebook Post

Due to Shakib Al Hasan’s injury, some fans started making rumours on social media. While some said he will not play any game in ICC World Cup 2023, some said he will not be the captain.

This did not go down well with former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who lambasted these fans for negative rumours about Shakib Al Hasan. He slammed fans on a Facebook post.

“Shakib was injured, so he didn’t play (1st warm-up), may he recover soon, but I’ve seen many writing or saying that since he’s injured whether he’ll play or not! Many wrote that he should be excluded from the team. Is this even a matter? What kind of mental sickness is this!

“Which generation are we seeing, what kind of thoughts are they growing up with? What will they achieve in life by growing so much jealousy in their minds?” Mashrafe Mortaza wrote on Facebook.

Mortaza also said that fans should worry about the whole team instead of just one player.

“Is this a team of an individual or of a country? Not only Shakib, all of them are our representatives. They are bearers of our own world cup dream. The favourite cricketer of some people may not be there, or may not perform.

But the team is ours, and that should be remembered. To be with the world cup team and to give them the belief is most important now,” Mashrafe Mortaza added.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh outplayed Sri Lanka in the warm-up match despite Shakib Al Hasan’s absence. Bangladesh bowled out Sri Lanka for 263 and later chased down the target by 7 wickets with half-centuries by Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
