Former Pakistan skippers Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez raised concerns about the team’s poor performances in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023. The former cricketers questioned the team management over their approach in the continental tournament.

Earlier, Zaka Ashraf announced a high-profile Cricket Technical Committee (CTC), which consists of Misbah-ul-Haq, Inzam-ul-Haq, and Mohammad Hafeez. The committee was created to advise Zaka Ashraf on the administration and implementation of cricket policies.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) convened a meeting at Lahore’s National Cricket Academy on Wednesday, with Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the PCB management committee, presiding. Pakistan’s performance in the Asia Cup was mainly discussed in this meeting.

Skipper Babar Azam, head coach Grant Bradburn, and members of the technical cricket committee, namely Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez, attended the meeting. Team director Mickey Arthur and vice-captain Shadab Khan also participated in the discussions via video conferencing.

During the meeting, Misbah and Hafeez discussed future strategies, team composition, and player utilization. Babar Azam expressed confidence in Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan, who have been struggling for form and hoped for better performances from them in the upcoming World Cup.

According to a report by Cricket Pakistan, there is a chance that Shadab Khan may continue as the vice-captain. The cricket committee pinpointed several mistakes made by the coaching staff. While the coaches admitted these errors, they seemed hesitant to alter their strategies in the future.

The Babar Azam-led team failed to reach the final match of the six-team tournament after losing to India and Sri Lanka in the Super Four stages. Pacers Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf suffered injuries during the Super Four match against India in the marquee tournament.

The Pakistan men’s team selectors are expected to finalize their World Cup squad after taking inputs from skipper Babar Azam on Thursday. Following his feedback, the PCB is expected to officially announce the squad for the marquee tournament in India.
