As the teams gear up to fight it out in the highly-anticipated ICC World Cup 2023, the fans are busy pulling each other’s legs on social media. Something similar happened between former New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan and England great Kevin Pietersen on Saturday (September 30).
The former pacer, who last played international cricket in 2018, is currently plying his trade as a commentator. He was a part of the commentary panel for the Cricket World Cup qualifier earlier this year and was recently seen as a commentator during the ODI series between Bangladesh and New Zealand earlier this month.
Mitchell McClenaghan is also very popular among fans for his humorous replies on X (formerly Twitter). He regularly interacts with his fans and followers on the social media platform and does not shy away from having some fun at their expense.

And Kevin Pietersen got a taste of Mitchell McClenaghan’s humorous nature on Saturday morning. Ahead of the World Cup warm-up game between hosts India and reigning champions England, the former England captain asked his followers: “Is the World Cup Final being played in a warm-up game today?”

New Zealand finished as the runners-up in the last two editions of the ODI World Cup and is looking solid ahead of the upcoming edition too. Mitchell McClenaghan was a part of the New Zealand that made it to the World Cup final in 2015.
The Kane Williamson-led side have started their sojourn in India in a stunning manner by registering a thumping 5-wicket win over Pakistan in the warm-up game on Friday (September 29). Chasing a big total of 345, the Black Caps chased down the total in less than 44 overs thanks to fifties from Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, and Mark Chapman.
