Young Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah is all set to undergo surgery after being ruled out of the much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023, which is set to be played in India. Naseem Shah is expected to be sidelined from the action for at least three months after the surgery.

Naseem Shah suffered a shoulder injury against India in the Super Four match of the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023. The right-arm pacer was forced to leave the field without completing his 10-over quota. He also missed their final match against Sri Lanka.

Naseem Shah Has Been Advised To Undergo Surgery – PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released an official statement on Naseem Shah‘s injury while announcing the team for the World Cup. The PCB mentioned that Naseem has been advised to undergo surgery after comprehensive medical assessments and consultations with medical experts.

“Following thorough medical examinations and consultations with leading medical experts, Naseem Shah has been advised to undergo surgery. He is expected to recover in three to four months,” the board said in a statement released today.

The 20-year-old has been actively involved in cricket over the past few months. He participated in a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka and was also part of the Lankan Premier League (LPL) 2023. He played in a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan before the Asia Cup.

Naseem Shah Will Be Out For A Longer Time – Inzamam-ul-Haq

PCB Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq expressed his concern over Naseem Shah’s injury, describing him as a crucial bowler for Pakistan. Inzamam-ul-Haq expressed hope for Shah’s swift recovery from injury.

“Naseem Shah is a key bowler for us, but he’s injured,” PCB chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq told reporters in Lahore today.

“Unfortunately, the report we have from our doctors, we hear Naseem will be out for a longer time than just the World Cup. At this time, he was the world’s best bowler in my view. It’s a loss for Pakistan. We hope he’s fit soon.”
