'No Regrets..', Says Rohit Sharma As He Embarks Upon His Journey For ICC World Cup 2023

The next two months will give Rohit Sharma the opportunity to enter an elite club and leave a lasting legacy as a captain. He will be leading India in the ICC World Cup 2023 and will have the opportunity to join a select group of cricketers who have managed to lead their teams to the coveted title.
To date only ten captains have won the World Cup and Rohit Sharma will have the opportunity to become the eleventh. From India, only Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni have achieved the feat and Rohit Sharma will definitely be eager to join their club. India have not won the World Cup since 2011 and have not won an ICC trophy since 2013.
A monumental win in the ODI World Cup this year will undoubtedly make Rohit Sharma one of India’s most decorated captains. One of India’s greatest ODI openers, the Mumbai star will have the opportunity to leave a legacy as a captain too.
Rohit Sharma on India not winning an ICC Trophy:
While the ODI World Cup will give Rohit Sharma to leave a legacy as a captain, the India captain is not thinking about it. Speaking to the Indian Express, the right-handed batsman implied that the World Cups are no longer as valuable as they once were. While saying that people do not really remember the past, he insisted that India’s failure to win ICC competitions in recent years is disappointing.
“Yes, we have not won; it’s fine! I’m not a person who overthinks and puts myself in a tough place where I’m not able to make a decision. England started winning now; in 2019 they won the World Cup after so many years. It happens. Australia is the only consistent team who have won. After 2007, they won the ODI World Cup in 2015. They won the T20 World Cup in Dubai,” Sharma told The Indian Express.
So who will win the Cup? “I don’t have an answer for it. How can I say that now? All I can hope is that the team is in a good space. Everybody is fit and fine. That’s all I can hope for. I cannot say beyond this. Space is such an important factor and it’s a very key thing now,” he said.
Rohit Sharma has already led India in one World Cup – the T20 World Cup last year and failed to guide the team to glory. India looked unimpressive throughout the competition but still managed to make it to the semifinal where they suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat at the hands of eventual winners England.
Rohit Sharma-led India also suffered a defeat in the ICC World Test Championship final earlier this year. But he recently led the team to the Asia Cup title and will be hoping that he ends India’s long wait for an ICC title.
