Pakistan Cricket Team are all set to travel to India for the ICC World Cup 2023 on Wednesday (27th September). However, they are yet to receive their visas, as per the latest reports in ESPNCricinfo, which is a massive cause of concern with less than 48 hours remaining for their departure.
The Pakistan Cricket Team are the only participants who are yet to receive visas whereas all the other teams have been given clearance, with few even landing in India. This matter was reported to ICC by the PCB recently and despite that, there was no positive response even during working hours on Monday (25th September).
Pakistan Cricket Board wrote to ICC about the treatment of their team by BCCI ahead of ICC World Cup 2023. They questioned ICC related to their progress in that matter. They also asked the governing body if BCCI had provided a written guarantee related to providing visas to all participating nations.
Pakistan currently are slated to travel to Dubai in the early hours of Wednesday. After that in the evening, they will be flying out to Hyderabad in the evening. Their plan for a team bonding trip to Dubai earlier was canceled due to the delay in the visa process. They are yet to receive the documents with the warmup game around the corner as well.
Ahead of opening their campaign against the Netherlands, Pakistan will play their first warm-up game against New Zealand on September 29. They will then take on Australia in another warmup fixture on 3rd October.
The PCB submitted the passports of the entire contingent to the Indian embassy after they returned from Colombo at the end of the Asia Cup. But despite sending the documents early, PCB is yet to receive visas for all the players. This has sparked a bit of controversy as to why the Pakistan team haven’t received their visas.
The visa delay for the Pakistan Cricket Team is speculated to be due to the political tensions between the two countries. It will be for the first time since the 2016 T20 World Cup that Men in Green will travel to India.
