Ramiz Raja, the former chairman of PCB, has been put under severe criticism by Danish Kaneria who allegedly labelled Ramiz as a ‘hypocrite’ for travelling to India as a commentator for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Ramiz Raja was PCB’s chairman from September 2021 to December 2022 and his tenure came to an end after Pakistan was defeated 0-3 on home soil by England in December 2022.
Pakistan’s former leg-spinner was quick to point out Ramiz Raja’s hypocrisy given that Ramiz was of the opinion that the Pakistan team should not travel to India for the World Cup as India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023. Danish believes that Ramiz Raja should have declined the offer of commentary in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Danish pointed out that Ramiz Raja is not sticking to his words and that it is a matter of self-respect. He also showed his dislike for Raja’s U-turn on his statements by travelling to India for the World Cup as a commentator.

“Ramiz Raja said Pakistan won’t travel to India for the World Cup, but he himself is doing commentary in India for money. He had made some bold claims. I believe when you make such statements, you should stick to your words. It is a matter of self-respect. If he had said that Pakistan wouldn’t go to India, he should have rejected the offer to do commentary. I didn’t like this U-turn.” said Kaneria on his YouTube Channel.
Notably, the Asia Cup was played in Sri Lanka and Pakistan got to host four matches as per the hybrid model, India played all their matches including the final in Sri Lanka and Pakistan arrived in India to participate in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Danish also talked about the welcome that the Pakistan National Cricket Team got after landing in India. Being a Hindu, Danish praised his culture of welcoming the guests with open arms.
“Pakistan received a very warm welcome in India. This is our Hindu culture, and we believe in Atithi Devo Bhava. Whenever someone comes to our land, we always welcome them with open arms. We saw how fans were chanting for the likes of Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi. It was a very wonderful gesture,” Kaneria said.
Pakistan will face the Netherlands on 6th October in Hyderabad as their first match of the 2023 World Cup. Hopefully, Babar Azam and Co will have a great time in India and they will be hoping to deliver in this tournament and win the World Cup.
Pakistan faced a defeat in their first warm-up game against New Zealand but took some positives from that game as Mohammad Rizwan scored a century and Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel got to their respective half-centuries scoring 80 and 75 respectively.
