Former Indian cricketer Abhishek Nayar lauded middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav following his brilliant knock in the first ODI against Australia. Abhishek Nayar stated that Suryakumar Yadav’s form will give confidence to the team ahead of the World Cup 2023.

Suryakumar Yadav was under pressure after a string of low scores in ODIs. However, the right-handed batter scored a brilliant half-century at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Friday, September 22. He scored 50 runs off 49 balls, marking his first ODI fifty since February 2022.

“Suryakumar Yadav coming back to form, scoring that fifty after one whole year just tells you that India are in safe hands going into the World Cup,” Nayar told JioCinema.

“There were a lot of questions asked in terms of his form in ODIs, whether or not he can replicate what he does in T20 cricket so very well in ODIs,” he added.

Suryakumar, the No. 1 ranked batter in T20Is, struggled to replicate his success in the shorter format in the 50-over format. He recorded three golden ducks during the three-match ODI series against Australia at home earlier this year.

Today’s Innings Will Give Him Confidence – Abhishek Nayar On Suryakumar Yadav

Abhishek Nayar emphasized the importance of Suryakumar Yadav’s innings, stating that it would boost his confidence and that of the team ahead of the much-awaited World Cup at home.

“Today’s innings will give him and everyone out there a lot of confidence,” he concluded.

The selectors and team management backed Suryakumar despite his previous struggles in the format. Team India head coach Rahul Dravid recently stated that they would allow him to play with more freedom.

The 33-year-old was instrumental in India successfully chasing down a target of 277 runs in the series opener. He added a crucial 80-run partnership with in-term skipper KL Rahul for the fifth wicket. The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the ongoing three-game math series.
