Trent Boult Fires Massive Warning To Other Teams As He Asserts New Zealand's Intent To Win ICC World Cup 2023

After being out of the ODI format for a year, New Zealand pacer Trent Boult is back in the ODI squad for his third ICC Cricket World Cup campaign. The 34-year-old has previously been part of New Zealand’s World Cup campaign in 2015 and 2019 respectively. In both of the previous World Cup campaigns, New Zealand reached the finals but couldn’t break that last barrier to lift the coveted trophy.
Trent Boult spent last year away from the Blackcaps after turning down a New Zealand Cricket contract to spend time with his young family. It was a big risk that he took but his skills lured the selectors to offer him a spot in New Zealand’s World Cup squad. Boult has played in different T20 leagues in India, the United States, and Australia in the past year.
New Zealand are preparing to reach a third straight final in the World Cup and with the likes of Trent Boult and Kane Williamson being back, there are high hopes that they might win the title this time around. Trent Boult has been in great form since returning to the international side earlier in September. He took 8 wickets in two ODIs against England and is looking fired up for the World Cup.
‘World Cup Selection Was Never Guaranteed’, Says Trent Boult.
Trent Boult talked about his World Cup selection saying he had to work hard for it even though he was out of the international side. “Selection for the World Cup was never guaranteed. I had to work for it, so I am very happy to be here. It was a good feeling chucking back on the black ODI kit, I can’t wait for more. I’ve been very fortunate to play in a couple of World Cup finals and been on the wrong side of all of them.” he said with a wry smile.
New Zealand will play the opening match of the tournament against England in what will be a repeat of the unforgettable 2019 World Cup Final. Hopefully this time around, New Zealand will break the curse and take the trophy home. New Zealand have played four ICC finals since 2015 but has managed to win only one and that was in 2021 when they defeated India in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship.
