Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has said that he wants India to keep their record against Pakistan in the World Cup intact. He said that he doesn’t want to see India face any upsets in the tournament and if there has to be one, Afghanistan should beat Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2023.
India have a strong record against Pakistan in the 50-over World Cup. The Men in Blue have thumped Pakistan 6 times in the World Cups and are yet to lose the game against their arch-rivals. The Rohit Sharma-led side would be hoping to continue the winning streak.
Virender Sehwag admitted that Pakistan are strong but India outplayed them in the Asia Cup 2023. He said that the crowd at Ahmedabad will create pressure on Men in Green and it’ll be an enthralling game. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he explained (as quoted by Cricket Pakistan):
“India’s record against Pakistan is quite remarkable, especially in the ODI World Cup. Until now, we haven’t lost a single match against them, and I really hope this record continues. Pakistan’s team is quite strong, but we have outperformed them in the Asia Cup.
“I would love for this record to remain intact, especially when the team steps onto the field in Ahmedabad to play against Pakistan. I expect that 100,000 people will come to the ground to watch the match, and that in itself will create pressure.”
India and Pakistan will be up against each other on 14th October in Ahmedabad. The Men in Blue recently thumped their arch-rivals by a massive margin of 228 runs in the Asia Cup 2023.
If there has to be an upset, it should be like Afghanistan defeating Pakistan – Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag said that if there has to be any upset in the ICC World Cup 2023, it should be Afghanistan beating Pakistan or South Africa defeating England. Virender Sehwag explained:
“A neck-and-neck battle and an unexpected contender—I wish for something like this to happen this time, leaving India astonished. There should be something that shakes up the expectations, but I don’t want India to face any upset.
“If there has to be an upset, it should be like Afghanistan defeating Pakistan, or New Zealand defeating Australia, or South Africa defeating England. That’s when it will be exciting to watch this World Cup.”
ICC World Cup 2023 will begin from 5th October. India will open their campaign against Australia on 8th October whereas Pakistan will face Netherlands on 6th October.
