Pakistan super fan Mohammad Bashir, fondly known as Bashir Chacha, has rubbished recent reports stating that he was detained by the airport authorities and security agencies after he landed in India for the ICC World Cup 2023.

The Pakistan team landed in Hyderabad for the competition on Wednesday (September 27) and received a grand reception from the fans. Hundreds of fans were at the airport to cheer the Men In Green and Mohammad Bashir was also among them.

Soon after the grand welcome, several media outlets reported that Mohammad Bashir was detained for questioning by the airport authorities and the security agencies. However, the super fan has rubbished all the reports and has confirmed that he was not detained by the agencies. He also expressed his delight over returning to India once again.

“I was never detained for questioning in the airport while I was there to receive the Pakistan team. It was just that they asked me not to wave the Pakistan flag due to security issues. They just took my flag and gave it back once the team departed. It was a fantastic welcome, and I am very happy to be here in India for the World Cup,” Mohammad Bashir told Sportstar.

“I have been a Pakistan fan for so long, and I will travel wherever the Pakistan team is there. There was no such incident of me getting detained, and in fact, the hospitality was really good. The way things are arranged is really amazing, and I want to thank India and Hyderabad for the welcome,” he added.

Mohammad Bashir lives in Chicago and travels around the world to support the Pakistani team. For the ODI World Cup 2023, he arrived in Hyderabad two days before Pakistan’s arrival and is currently staying at his relative’s house.

Mohammad Bashir also appreciated India, opening up on the adulations he received from the Indians. He also spoke about the authorities’ decision to conduct the warm-up game between Pakistan and New Zealand in Hyderabad behind closed doors due to security reasons.

“India is always special; aur yahan ke awaan main badi mohabbat hai (there is love in this country). I respect the decision to not allow fans, but I will try and see if I can be near the stadium if possible just to extend my support,” said the fan.
