Yuvraj Singh Gives A Unique Advice To Team India For Dealing With Distractions During The ICC World Cup 2023

Yuvraj Singh, who won the Player of the Tournament Award in the 2011 edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup has recalled a team talk that he received during the 2011 World Cup from Sachin Tendulkar.

World Cup is a high-pressure event and in India, where Cricket is more than just a game, the pressure on the players is even higher because of the expectations of the fans across the country. One single mistake by the players and they can find themselves under the scrutiny of the media.

Yuvraj Singh Shared Sachin’s Advice To Team India

Yuvraj Singh revealed that in 2011, even though social media was not very prevalent, media and public scrutiny took its toll on the team after the loss against South Africa. Sensing the tension inside the team, Sachin Tendulkar called for an emergency team meeting to make sure that the team regained focus.

“Now, distraction is a bit more because that time there was no social media. There was a distraction with media and people. We were trying to focus on the game, and in the World Cup, we had lost to South Africa – a game we should have won. The media started to go berserk. Sachin sat down with the team and said, ‘We need to stop watching television, stop reading the papers. Use our headphones when we are going through crowds in airports. Just focus on the World Cup’. The team agreed, we just followed that and it really worked,” Yuvraj recalled.

In short, Yuvraj Singh has advised the Indian Team to keep themselves aloof from the media for the next one and a half months and keep their complete focus on the World Cup. Team India has landed in Guwahati ahead of their warm-up match against England.
