Former Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has opined that the Indian team should perform well in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 for their captain Virat Kohli who will be playing his last T20 tournament as a skipper of the team.

Current Indian all-format skipper Virat Kohli last month made a shocking announcement revealing that he will be stepping down from T20 Internationals captaincy after the upcoming T20 World Cup. Also a few days later, he announced that the IPL 2021 season would be his last tenure as Indian Premier League (IPL) captain.

Speaking with Uncut, former Pakistan batter Younis Khan praised Virat Kohli and labelled him as a “role model” and said he has changed the game for India, and the nation is proud of him. He stated:

He has been amazing. As a player or as a role model, he has been terrific. He is one of them who has changed the game for his country. His whole nation is proud of him. It’s good luck for him for this upcoming T20 World Cup. And I hope that he play really well. And team India should perform for him because as a captain this will be his last series in T20s.”

The 43-year-old Younis also wanted Kohli to leave captaincy on a high note just like he did by leading Pakistan towards their first T20 World Cup title in 2009. Younis Khan stated:

I hope him and his nation perform well. And he should also leave his captaincy on a high note, just as I left it in 2009 with a World Cup victory,”

Talking about the comparison between the Indian captain Kohli and Pakistan captain Babar Azam, Yonis said:

Although it feels good, but we should not compare Virat Kohli and Babar Azam.”

Meanwhile, the Men In Blue will commence their Super12s journey with a battle against arch-rivals Pakistan on 24 October in Dubai.
