It has a forgettable outing for the Netherlands in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Two losses in two consecutive matches meant that the Netherlands are out of the race of the Super 12s. The Netherlands began their campaign with a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Ireland.
They exhibited a much better performance in the next game but a heroic knock from David Wiese took the game away from them. They went on to lose that game by 6 wickets.
The Dutch nation is slated to play their third game against Sri Lanka on Friday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Here’s a look at our predicted playing XI of the Netherlands for the much-anticipated contest.
SL vs NED: Netherlands (NED) Predicted Playing XI against Sri Lanka’s (SL) – ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Match 12
Openers: Max ODowd and Stephan Myburgh
Max ODowd has been the standout batsman for the Netherlands in the tournament. He played a valiant 51 off 47 in the first game and followed it up with a brilliant 70-run knock off 56 balls. Myburgh got the start but couldn’t convert that into a big score. He made 17 off 16 and the team is likely to persist with the same opening combination for the match on Friday.
Middle-Order: Bas de Leede, Van der Merwe and Scott Edwards
Senior member, Van der Merwe has failed to live up to the expectations in the tournament. He got out on the very first ball in the first match and followed it up with a 4-ball 6-run knock.
Scott Edwards made an 11-ball 21 in the last game. That should give him some confidence ahead of the game on Friday. Bas de Leede didn’t bat in the last game but is unlikely to sit out.
All-rounders: Ackermann and Ryan Ten Doeschate
Ackermann stitched a valuable partnership with Max ODowd in the last game against Namibia. He scored 35 runs off 32 balls, including a four and a six.
His partner, Ryan Ten Doeschate, however, has been one of the biggest disappointments. He got out in the very first ball in the first game and didn’t get to bat in the second match. However, given the experience he holds, expect him to make it into the playing XI.
Bowlers: Pieter Seelaar, Logan Van Beek, Fred Klaasen and Brandon Glover
The likes Pieter Seelaar, Logan Van Beek, Fred Klaasen and Brandon Glover should complete the playing XI. All four bowled well in the last game.
Klaasen returned with figures of 1 for 18 in 3 overs, while Glover made one scalp for 21 runs in 3 overs. Skipper Seelaar took 1 wicket for 14 runs in 2.1 overs.
