The skipper of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team Dasun Shanaka has stated that the top order batting unit of the team is a major concern in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

Sri Lanka has become the first team from the Round 1 stage to make it into the Super 12s after a comfortable 70-run win over Ireland.

However, the top order batting unit of the team failed miserably in that match. Kusal Perera was dismissed by off-spinner Paul Stirling, Dinesh Chandimal and Avishka Fernando were sent back to the dugout by Josh Little, putting Sri Lanka on 8 for three after just ten balls.

Talking about the failure of the top order the Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka in the post-match presentation stated:

We were a bit worried. The top-order has been a little concerning for us. We had a plan before the World Cup to send Hasaranga up the order,”

The Sri Lankan skipper further added that it’s a luxury for them to have some good quick seamers in the side. Dasun Shanaka also lauded the coaches for managing the team properly and signed off by saying that team needs to make a lot of improvements in the fielding and top-order batting department. He stated:

It is a great luxury to have quick pacers. They are accurate as well. Credit to the coaches as well. We need to improve at the top-order and on our fielding as well,”

Meanwhile, defending the target all the Sri Lankan bowlers looked in great touch and they were able to bowl out Ireland at the score of 101.

Sri Lanka is definitely going to the Super 12s stage. However, which Group they will join is not confirmed. If Sri Lanka manages to win over Netherland on Friday they will be at the top of the points table and will go the Group 1 which is also referred to as ‘Group Of Death’ and join England, Australia, West Indies, and South Africa.
