Scotland left-arm spinner Mark Watt has issued a challenge for India captain, Virat Kohli, for when the two will clash in the Super 12 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup. On Thursday, Scotland qualified for the Super 12 with a hat-trick on wins over Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea and Oman in Round 1.
Kyle Coetzer’s side finished at the top of their qualifying group, and hence, were added to Group 2, which includes India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Afghanistan. Scotland will meet India on November 5 in Dubai.
Mark Watt, who has been Scotland’s most economical bowler so far, conceding at just 5.41 while having taken 3 wickets, said that Kohli “should be worried” about him as he has already “got quite a few plans” to dislodge the Indian skipper.
“I’ve got quite a few plans for Virat. I’m going to keep them hush-hush at the moment, but I think he should be worried. That’s why you play the game: to play against the big stars.
“You want to challenge yourself against the best and they certainly are the best in the world. All the guys are just absolutely buzzing to showcase their skills against the whole world,” Mark Watt was quoted as saying by Mirror Sport.
I think we’re going to make a few upsets: Mark Watt
Mark Watt remained confident about facing the big teams in the Super 12, especially after they made an upset by defeating Bangladesh. The 25-year-old reckons that teams shouldn’t take Scotland lightly as they have got the momentum of three consecutive wins on their back coming into the Super 12.
“I think we’re going to make a few upsets. I don’t see why not. We’ve done it before – we’ve beaten the best ODI team in the world, we’ve beaten Bangladesh here and I think teams won’t take us lightly.
“They should be worried about Scotland, we’re in a great run of form and we’ve got a lot of momentum going forward. I don’t think we need to do anything else different; we’ve won three out of three,” he added.
With two wins Bangladesh finished second, behind Scotland, in Group B and were added to the Group 1 of Super 12, which includes England, South Africa, West Indies, and Australia.
