Bangladesh have included pacer Rubel Hossain into the squad for the T20 World Cup. He was earlier one of the two travelling reserves alongside Aminul Islam but now has been promoted to the main squad as an additional squad member.
This means that no player from the originally announced 15-man squad has been dropped. Rubel Hossain has travelled to Oman for the T20 World Cup’s training camp.
Rubel Hossain has featured in 28 T20Is for Bangladesh and picked up 28 wickets; he has been on the expensive side, leaking at 9.45 runs per over. He has also played 27 Tests and 104 ODIs and his experience will come in great help for the team. All-rounder Mahmudullah will lead Bangladesh at the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh will leave for Abu Dhabi on Sunday to play two warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and Ireland before returning back to Oman on 15 October for ‘Round 1’ of the T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh had earlier failed to qualify directly for the tournament and hence will have to play the qualifying ‘Round 1’ where they are clubbed with Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman. The top two teams from the two Qualifying groups will proceed through to the Super 12 stage. Bangladesh are coming off home series wins over Australia and New Zealand.
A Bangladesh XI team played a practice match against Oman A and won by 60 runs. Liton Das and Mohammad Naim recorded fifties while Shoriful Islam returned with a three-wicket haul.
