The Kohli-Rohit opening partnership was recently witnessed by cricket pundits in the bilateral T20I series against England earlier this year. Meanwhile, During an interaction with Sportskeeda in the lead-up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Sreesanth stated that KL Rahul should push himself to number 3 and let Kohli and his deputy Rohit open the innings. He stated:

I think Virat Kohli should open the innings with Rohit Sharma. It will be like the deadliest thing. And Rahul should bat at No.3. Because it’s T20I, Rishabh Pant can come at No.4,”

KL Rahul has done a brilliant job with the bat in the last few T20 games. In two warm-up games, he returned with the score of 51 and 39. In the last 5 matches, Rahul has smashed 3 fifties with his lowest score being 39. Overall Rahul smashed 626 runs in 13 IPL 2021 games at an average of 62.60 and strike rate of 138.80.
