Virat Kohli was in a jolly mood – a dancing mood – as India cruised to an emphatic win over Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

After the batters have set up 210 on the board, and the bowlers have put India in a commanding position, India’s victory was a foregone conclusion.

During one of the breaks between overs, walking towards the boundary line, Virat Kohli couldn’t hold himself back and danced a couple of steps on the tunes of the ‘My Name Is Lakhan’ song which was being played loudly by the DJ at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

The fans were certainly entertained by this unexpected dance act by the Indian skipper.

When we do that, we know how we can play: Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli lavished praise on India’s scintillating batting performance. The pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul got reunited at the top, and the two smashed a 140-run opening stand, providing the base for Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya to launch an outstanding assault in the death overs to take India to 210.

“Much better wicket to be fair. We spoke about the fact that in the other games, if we just had two overs of free-flowing batting, then that sends a message to the opposition that we are going to put you under the pump. When we do that, we know how we can play. Sometimes, you do fall to the pressure and have to accept that. T20 cricket is a very instinctive game, in batting, bowling and decision-making. We do make decisions on the go,” Virat Kohli said after India’s 66-run truimph.

India now have opened their account in the tournament. They would need to win their remaining two matches in a similar fashion and hope for other results to go their way as well. They will next meet Scotland in Dubai on Friday and then take on Namibia in the last Super 12 match on Monday.

New Zealand have 4 points in 3 matches and Afghanistan have 4 points in 4 matches. Should Kane Williamson’s team register wins in both their remaining matches, they will seal a semi-final spot.
