Hardik Pandya Front-Runner To Be Named India Vice-Captain For Asia Cup & T20 World Cup 2022: Reports
The renowned Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya may serve as the Men in Blue’s vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup competitions.
KL Rahul, who recently tested positive for COVID-19 and was forced to miss out on a five-match T20I series against the West Indies that he was slated to play in, could be replaced by Pandya, according to BCCI sources.
Rahul had surgery prior to this to treat a groin ailment he had incurred just before the June home T20I series against South Africa. He resumed his training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after his procedure.
We Want An All-rounder To Be The Vice-Captain And Hardik Pandya Fits The Bill Perfectly: Sources
“The management is discussing over one name for vice-captaincy. It could be Hardik Pandya as he gave us good results in the past. He made Gujarat Titans the champions of IPL 2022 under his leadership. He showed great performances in the series against South Africa and England. We want to name an all-rounder for this post and in the current scenario, Hardik deserves this post,” sources told ANI.
KL Rahul was elected the vice-captain of India in both white-ball formats after star batsman Virat Kohli resigned from the T20I captaincy following the T20 World Cup in November of last year and was replaced as the ODI squad skipper the following month by Rohit Sharma.
He was also named vice-captain of India’s Test team in December 2021 after Rohit Sharma, who was India’s then-test vice-captain, was forced to withdraw from the series due to injury.
In February 2022, KL Rahul played his final white-ball match for India at home against the West Indies, scoring 49 runs.
