England Cricket Team clinched a memorable T20 World Cup 2022. The team showed great character throughout the tournament after their heart-wrenching defeat against Ireland as not many gave them a chance. The way they defeated India in the Semi Final was quite lethal.
England would be ecstatic with their performance as they won T20 World Cup after a gap of 12 years. The peculiarity of England was that they had a lot of depth in both batting and bowling department. Skipper Jos Buttler was quite instrumental in his captaincy as he was a bowler’s captain.
Anil Kumble on Separate Teams
Anil Kumble was having an interaction with ESPNcricinfo and was asked whether the team needs a separate bunch of players .”Definitely, you need separate teams. You need, certainly, T20 specialists. I think what this English team has shown and even the last (T20) World Cup champions Australia have shown is that you need to invest in a lot of allrounders. Look at the batting order,” said Anil Kumble.
“Today Liam Livingstone is batting at No. 7. No other team has a No. 7 of the quality of Livingstone. (Marcus) Stoinis walks in at No. 6 (for Australia). That’s the kind of team you have to build. That’s something that you need to invest in. I’m not really sure whether you need a different captain or a different coach. It all depends on what team you are going to pick and then choose how you want to build the support and the leadership around it.” he added.
Separate Teams A Need of the Hour
As we all know that there is a lot of Cricket being played due to which the boards must think of keeping a separate pool of players for red ball and white ball. As mentioned by Kumble, the teams now must focus on all-rounders who can contribute to each aspect of the game.
The Men in Blue perhaps needs to change its combination and tactics. Head Coach Rahul Dravid would be well aware of the fact that they need some bowling all-rounders as their batters are not performing according to their credentials.
