Australia, the tournament’s hosts and defending champion, was eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on Saturday when England defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets. England maintains their cool to cross the finish line. They will play in the semi-finals.
Australia had to defeat Afghanistan by a huge margin of 185+ runs yesterday in order to defeat New Zealand’s NRR; however, the Aussies, who were batting first, failed to even go close to that total and ultimately triumphed by just 4 runs. Thus, NZ was the first team to secure a spot in the semifinals thanks to a strong NRR.

At the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Friday, Australia narrowly defeated Afghanistan by four runs in a T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 Stage match. Afghanistan was chasing a 169-run mark when Australia held them to 164 for 7 in 20 overs. With an unbroken score of 48 runs off 23 balls, featuring three fours and four sixes, Rashid Khan almost carried his team over the finish line. Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood each claimed two wickets for the Australians.

Australia first scored 168 for eight in 20 overs, thanks in large part to Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten effort of 54 runs off 32 deliveries. Six fours and two sixes were also included in his ferocious knock. In the meantime, Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq claimed three wickets, and Fazalhaq Farooqi claimed two dismissals.
England eliminates Australia from the T20 World Cup:
Australia’s problems began as soon as they lost to New Zealand in their opening Super 12 encounter, which caused the latter to reduce their net run rate to a negative 4.450. Australia, on the other hand, attempted a comeback but has since been unable to improve its net run rate.

The English bowlers put up a strong performance in the second half of Sri Lanka’s innings, removing boundaries and then applying pressure with rapid bowls to limit them to 141/8 in 20 Overs. After deciding to bat first, Sri Lanka got off to a strong start thanks to Pathum Nissanka, but they were unable to maintain the momentum. Mark Wood was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/26.

As England chased a target of 142 to go to the semifinals, Alex Hales and Jos Buttler amassed runs for fun in the first overs of their innings. The regular wicket loss in the middle overs, though, set them back. After England’s chances of making it to the semifinals were put in jeopardy by a collapse, Ben Stokes maintained his composure and led his team to victory.

It was a tough victory for England in the end, but they advanced to the semifinals and eliminated the tournament’s home nation, Australia. However, New Zealand will take first place because they have a higher net run rate than England.
