Jasprit Bumrah, the best fast bowler from India, suffered a back stress fracture and will not compete in the T20 World Cup in 2022.

Now, everyone is wondering who would take the place of the Yorker King. Will this be Deepak Chahar, who was a travelling reserve for the Asia Cup but was then benched for the T20 World Cup? Or Mohammed Shami will finally have the opportunity to make amends on the international stage, particularly after what transpired at the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Shami has utterly failed despite being one of Team India’s pace spearheads, managing just six wickets in his five games. He was scheduled to play in his maiden international T20 encounter against Australia, but due to a Covid-19 infection, Umesh Yadav was brought in to take his place.

He did, however, post his unfavourable Covid report on Instagram, which gave Indian supporters and, of course, the team administration some respite.

Jasprit Bumrah has a serious back condition: BCCI official

Jasprit Bumrah, the pace spearhead for India, was already ruled out of the T20 World Cup owing to a back stress fracture, which dealt a devastating blow to the team’s chances at the ICC flagship tournament beginning next month in Australia. As per a BCCI representative, Bumrah’s back injury will keep him from playing for six months.

“Jasprit Bumrah is not going to play the T20 World Cup for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for six months,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Chahar has been earmarked as a like-for-like backup for Bhuvneshwar Kumar:

Relating to who would succeed Bumrah, numerous people have settled on the choices of Deepak Chahar or Mohammed Shami. However, a Times of India report suggests that there might be additional players.

“Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar are the standbys. Shami has not been preferred in the T20 format but offers experience. Chahar has been earmarked as a like-for-like backup for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. His batting prowess also works in his favor. Either of Avesh Khan or Mohammed Siraj could also make it to the standbys,” the report states.

Bumrah’s alternative for India in the two Twenty20 Internationals against South Africa that will be played at Guwahati and Indore has been announced as Mohammed Siraj.
