ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Dinesh Karthik Reacts After Being Included In India Squad For The Marquee Tournament

BCCI has announced its squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The Selection Committee has decided to include Dinesh Karthik & Rishabh Pant both which is quite a surprise. Dinesh Karthik, one year ago was seen doing commentary and within a short span of period, he has cemented his place in the team. It would be interesting to see what role he plays in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022; in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022 he was blatantly ignored which was quite shocking.

In the squad, Deepak Hooda has got the nod over Shreyas Iyer and this may be because of his hitting prowess. The Selection Committee has included Shami in the squad but as a stand-by player which can raise a lot of eyebrows. The fast bowler hasn’t played a single T20I since T20 World Cup 2021 and his absence is quite questionable. The likes of Harshal Patel & Jasprit Bumrah make a return to the National Setup after injuries.

The veteran batter posted a message on his Twitter account. “Dreams do come true” Dinesh Karthik tweeted. Karthik will have to work on his game especially in the middle overs as that phase is hurting team India a lot.

Same Conundrum Again for Management

The Selection Panel have included Pant, Karthik & Hooda; but only 2 of them can bat in the middle order. We have seen that Deepak Hooda isn’t that effective at the back end of the innings. The reason behind including Hooda may be his bowling as he can squeeze a couple of overs. There are also question marks over Rishabh Pant’s batting position; as in the match against Sri Lanka, he batted after Hardik Pandya.

The boundaries in Australia are very long as compared to Dubai as hitting sixes won’t be easy. The batters have to make themselves accustomed to the fast & bouncy pitches where scoring won’t be that easy.  In that scenario, the likes of Pant & Karthik would be tested due to which the role of Hardik Pandya becomes extremely vital as he is someone who can clear the fence quite easily.
