Sri Lanka National Cricket Team suffered an embarrassing defeat against New Zealand. New Zealand won the match by a huge margin of 65 runs. Skipper Dasun Shanaka would be utterly disappointed as the batters failed to show any intent while chasing.

New Zealand on the other hand, would be ecstatic and now are one step close to making it to Semi-Final. They now have 5 points from 3 matches with a stellar NRR of +3.85. The team showed fighting spirit as earlier they were in deep trouble where they lost 3 wickets in the power-play overs.

Dasun Shanka on Defeat

Skipper Dasun Shanaka was quite vocal about the team’s loss against New Zealand. “The dropped catches, I think that’s a game changer. I think we could have kept them to a score like 130, 140 if we got that wicket. Yet again, we didn’t bat well upfront. We know that on these wickets, it’s tough. The first two overs are going to be the toughest two overs.” said Shanaka.

“We were three down after two. So it’s never going to help us when we’re chasing 160. It was always about playing straight against a moving ball. We were not good in this game. I think it was the worst we’ve played with the bat. So what is important is to regroup as a batting unit and win the next two games.” he added.

New Zealand on a Roll

The Black Caps have a very good habit of finding match-winners on a given day. This time Glenn Phillips smashed a terrific century in tough times. It looked as if the right-handed batter was toying with the fielders by converting ones into twos.

New Zealand now would be aiming to top the Group table. The team, though would be worried about the form of Kane Williamson as the batter’s form is nowhere great. Kiwis need to make sure that they don’t get complacent as they have one high-voltage clash remaining in the form of England.
