The T20 World Cup 2022 is just a few weeks away, with the marquee tournament slated to begin on October 16 in Australia. The showpiece event will feature 16 nations. While eight teams have already qualified for the upcoming edition of the tournament, the remaining eight will go through first-round matches to fill the four slots of the ‘Super 12’ stage.

The eight teams which will compete in the first round are Namibia, Netherlands, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates in Group A; and Ireland, Scotland, West Indies and Zimbabwe in Group B. The winners and runners-up of each group will join the eight qualified teams in the ‘Super 12’ stage.

Fans and pundits back Mohammed Shami’s inclusion in the World Cup squad

However, for India, pundits and fans have been backing the inclusion of star pacer Mohammed Shami, especially after the pace unit’s mediocre performances of late. They believe Shami’s pace and experience might come in handy in Australian conditions. Mohammed Shami is currently in the reserves but is being dubbed as a favourite given his credentials are superior to most bowlers in the mix.

Teams have a deadline of October 9 to make any changes required to the squad

While all the participating 16 teams have already announced their squads for the cricket extravaganza, there’s still scope to make changes to their squads till October 9, even if their players are not suffering from any injury concerns. After the deadline, they would have to seek ICC’s permission to make amends.

Results in the last few games have put the spanner in the works and some teams might seriously give thought to making changes to their squad. With the world event less than a month away, it remains to be seen whether the 32-year-old pacer will regain his fitness.
