ICC T20 World Cup 2022: “I Admire Rohit Sharma” – Drushil Chauhan, 9, Who Impressed India Captain In Perth

The 9-year-old Drushil Chauhan, who impressed modern-day legend Rohit Sharma in Perth, said that he admires the Indian captain and wants to become a batter like him.

India National Cricket Team are currently in Australia for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. During one of the practice sessions of the side at the WACA in Perth, skipper Rohit spotted Drushil bowling very well as a part of the kids’ activity, and realising his potential called the youngster to the nets to bowl to him and the kid bowled one over to the Indian skipper.

Speaking to TOI, the 9-year-old Drushil said that he wants to become a batter like Rohit and a bowler like legendary India all-rounder Kapil Dev.

“I want to bat like Rohit Sharma and bowl like Kapil Dev. I admire Rohit Sharma. It was really wonderful speaking with the legend (Rohit) and taking tips from him,” Drushil told TOI.

“My father shows me cricket videos and he told me to learn and pick up skills (from there). He has a good collection of videos. I learn from those. He always backs me and motivates me. In Australia, I have met many international cricketers and have clicked many pictures with them,” the nine-year-old said.

The 9-year-old further talked about the deliveries he bowled to the India National Cricket Team captain in the nets. He said:

“I bowled inswing and outswing deliveries to Rohit Sharma. I also tried one yorker and one short-length delivery. I wanted to bowl a variety of deliveries to him. I couldn’t beat him (laughs). He played those with ease. But I could swing the ball.

Drushil also revealed that along with Rohit, India head coach Rahul Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathour also appreciated his bowling.

“I also spoke to him (Rohit). He appreciated my bowling and asked about my background and discussed cricket with me. I was so happy and honoured to speak with the Indian captain. I admire him,” the youngster further said.

“Rahul Dravid appreciated my bowling and said ‘keep it up’. Vikram Rathour also said ‘well done’,” Drushil further recalled.
