Shubman Gill may not have scored a big run in the ongoing home ODI series against South Africa, but he has been on fire recently.

The right-hander won Player of the Series awards in India’s most recent visits to Zimbabwe and the West Indies. In just 11 ODIs, Gill, who is still in his infancy, has scored 530 runs at a fantastic average and strike rate of 58.89 and 104.54, respectively. Additionally, he has a century and a half to his name.

In actuality, Gill started appearing regularly in the Indian ODI lineup in 2022. Different Indian teams have been fielded for various series during the World Cup year, and Gill, who solidified his spot in the Indian Test team (11 Tests since his debut in December 2020), is now a regular part of the Indian ODI teams as well.

Shubman has played 8 ODIs so far in 2022 and has scored 481 runs at an average of 80.16 after playing just three One-Day Internationals in the previous three years (two against New Zealand in 2019 and one against Australia in 2020).

I just want to keep performing the way I have been: Shubman Gill

Earlier this year, during India’s tour of the Caribbean and the United States, Shubman Gill also fell short of a century against the West Indies in Port of Spain. He registered an unbeaten 98 off as many balls in the rain-shortened game to enable India to win easily by 119 runs (D/L method). On that tour, Shubman also won two Man of Match awards.

“I would love to be a part of any World Cup team, be it for the T20 World Cup or the ODI World Cup. I just want to keep performing the way I have been. I am looking forward to it (being a part of the Indian ODI World Cup squad),” Shubman Gill further told TimesofIndia.com.

“It has been a childhood dream of mine to wear the Indian jersey and score as many runs for the country as I can. I am thankful that I can do that. Whenever I go out to the middle, I have one aim and that is to put as many runs on the scoreboard as possible and win matches for my team,” Shubman told TimesofIndia.com.

Gill was the fifth-highest run scorer of the IPL 2022 with 483 runs scored in 16 games. Although he is yet to play in a T20I.
