ICC T20 World Cup 2022: "If You Are Losing Just Before The World Cup..."- Wasim Akram's Verdict On India's Asia Cup Campaign

Indian Cricket Team’s Asia Cup 2022 campaign was a forgettable one. The Men in Blue had a dismal show in the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2022. A billion people would be worried as the team is not performing according to its reputation. BCCI would be aware that they had a disastrous ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and the sudden loss in Asia Cup 2022 has started raising question marks over preparation.
The management knows that it’s a wake-up call for the team. There is not much time left for the ICC T20 World Cup and now the skipper Rohit Sharma & Head Coach Rahul Dravid will have to stick to one combination rather than playing musical chairs. We all have seen that the team has had a successful England & Caribbean Tour where the team was just rocking.
Wasim Akram on Indian Cricket Team
Wasim Akram was having an interaction with Star Sports after Sri Lanka’s victory against India and was asked about Rohit Sharma. “What a player. What an innings he played (against Sri Lanka), no doubt. But I think this performance from India will affect his performance. If you’re losing just before the World Cup which is just around the corner, that does make a difference to your captain.” said Akram.
“Opening partnership… yes, they played beautifully but the middle order has to perform as well once the openers get out. And that’s what didn’t happen. Although they reached almost 170-odd (against Sri Lanka), if they get partnerships going like they did against Pakistan, India should get 190 every game,” pointed out Akram.
Terrible Selection from Management
In Asia Cup 2022, we saw how Dinesh Karthik was dropped in the Super 4 stage. That decision proved to be too costly as Deepak Hooda wasn’t able to score big runs. Skipper Rohit Sharma alone can’t score runs as he also needs support from his teammates as after all the game of cricket is a team game.
Dinesh Karthik would be wondering the reason behind his axe as he hardly got any opportunity in the middle to showcase his talent. It looks like the skipper & head coach is going to use him as a secret weapon but that option looks a bit odd at the moment.
