The chief selector for Pakistan, Muhammad Wasim, is optimistic about his team’s performance against India in the T20 World Cup 2022 opener.
Recently, Team India was defeated by the Men in Green in the Super 4s round of the 2022 Asia Cup. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, they also crushed the Men in Blue by a margin of 10 wickets.
Wasim believes that the current Pakistani side has what it takes to compete with and defeat India in Melbourne next month. Following the announcement of the T20 World Cup roster, he addressed the media as follows:
“India is a billion-dollar team. But we showed last year as well as this year in the Asia Cup that this team is capable of winning and I have complete faith that they will continue to give the happiness of the fans in the World Cup,” Muhammad Wasim said.
We have planned our team based on Australian conditions: Muhammad Wasim
Muhammad Wasim also supported Pakistan’s performance at the Asia Cup, where the team lost to Sri Lanka in the championship game. They received criticism for the middle-inexperience, orders which became apparent toward the end of the competition. Adding to this, the Pakistani chief selector
“I think you need to look at the positives too that we have played the semifinals of the last T20 World Cup and the final of the Asia Cup. So to completely discard the team based on a couple of bad performances wouldn’t be fair.”
“We have planned our team based on Australian conditions and I am completely confident in the ability of the players that we have selected,” Muhammad Wasim added.
